Each skein has two sections: one gradient rainbow (75% of yarn) and one solid grey section (25% of yarn). One skein is enough for a (mismatched) pair of socks.
See here for a list of our different base yarns.
Hats shown are the Porty Hat by Ysolda in the Adult size. Each hat required less than half a (115 g / 4 oz) skein.
This colourway is also a great choice for a reversible Musselburgh Hat by Ysolda. One 115 g / 4 oz skein is enough for one hat.
Socks shown were knit using one skein of colourwheel (115 g). They were knit toe-up with a fleegle heel using a modified version of the Pebbles and Pathways pattern (omitting the stitch pattern). This pair is a women's size 9 and used almost all of the rainbow yarn and none of the grey. For larger socks, I recommend working the toe, heel and/or the cuff in the grey contrast yarn.
In 2020, we upgraded our dyeing process and did a lot of colour mixing tests to see how the colours play together. I posted a little about it here and here. There was such an enthusiastic response to these fun swatches that I decided to dye extras: here they are. There was a lot of (intentional) variation in early batches. Current batches match these photos.
We sell regular and XL skeins:
115 g (4 oz) is a standard skein
170 g (6 oz) is 1.5 times a standard skein
Our photos are intended to capture the overall feel of the colourway, but our dye lots do vary.
More details on our base yarns are available here.
