Temporary pause to US Shipping

The US has announced that starting August 29, the rule that let packages under $800 enter duty-free (the “de minimis” exemption) will end. Currently our yarn is duty-free under the trade agreement, but it’s not clear yet if that will still apply under these new rules.

Here’s what this means for you:
✨ If you already placed an order, we’re on track to ship it before the cut-off.
✨ We’ll be pausing new US orders for a short time while we sort out the new rules.
✨ We absolutely intend to keep shipping to the US—this pause is temporary.

I’ll spare you the 90-minute rant, but here’s the shorter version: we don't know whether our duty-free status under CUSMA/USMCA will still apply, and it's not yet clear how tariffs will be implemented.

One of the many unknowns is that implementation depends on how goods cross the border:

  • Canada Post/USPS: Shipments travel through the postal system, and tariffs would be collected directly from the recipient. But the system isn’t fully ready—there may be a grace period with no duties, or significant flat fees could be imposed.
  • Chit Chats: Shipments clear customs before being handed to USPS. In this case, we pre-pay tariffs and fees so there are no surprise charges on delivery. But, we don’t yet know if those tariffs will be 0% or 35%.

We so appreciate our US customers and will keep you updated when we know more. 💙 Thank you for sticking with us.
