Knit along with us this holiday season as we decorate our socks together!
Designed in collaboration with Andrea Rangel, Ornamental is a joyful, everyday-in-December project that invites you to slow down, savour the season, and bring a little handmade magic into your winter.
Start by choosing your favourite motifs, just like picking ornaments to hang on a tree, and combine them to create a custom decorative band around the leg. From there, it’s smooth sailing with relaxing stockinette stitch and cheerful, self-striping yarn that keeps the momentum going through the rest of the sock.
This kit includes:
- A pdf pattern Ornamental by Andrea Rangel (download code will be sent by email in November)
- One 100 g of Gauge Dye Works self-striping yarn and one 25 g skein of undyed yarn in our Trifecta Fingering base.
- Access to our December knit-along (hosted on Ravelry) to knit with a fun and supportive community.
The yarn is specially dyed to pair perfectly with the pattern, and the stripes make it very hard to put down. Whether you're knitting for yourself or someone knitworthy, you'll have a beautiful, personal project to carry you joyfully through the season.
Sock kits will ship within 4 weeks of your order so they arrive in time to cast on December 1. Sales close on October 17 to make sure we have time to dye and ship everything!
Base Yarns

All our yarn is spun at a Canadian mill. Our Merino wool is sourced from from farms in New Zealand and mulesing is not performed on the sheep.
Trifecta Fingering: 80% superwash Merino, 20% nylon
100 g = 339 m (370 yd) |
150 g = 507 m (555 yd)
4-Ply Sock: 75% superwash Merino, 25% nylon
100 g = 425 m (465 yd) | 150 g = 638 m (698 yd)
2-Ply Fingering: 100% superwash Merino
100 g = 339 m (370 yd) | 150 g = 507 m (555 yd)
MCN Fingering: 70% superwash Merino, 20% cashmere, 10% nylon
100 g = 339 m (370 yd) |
150 g = 507 m (555 yd)
Please note that these yardages were updated in October 2025. The yarn did not change, but there was a mistake in earlier listings/ballbands that showed the yardage as less than it really is.
Striping Patterns
Striping Patterns
Round Trip "There and back" with two matching halves—perfect for projects like socks. One 100 g skein of fingering weight is enough for an average-size pair of women's socks. For longer or wider socks, choose the 150 g size.
One-Way Trip A long, non-repeating color sequence, great for hats, cowls, or scarves. For a Musselburgh Hat, 100 g of Trifecta or MCN is enough for a size L hat but you will need 150 g if you'd like a wide, folded brim. 4-Ply has more yardage so 100 g is enough to make a folded brim.
Shawl Yarn Specially dyed for top-down triangular shawls. Each stripe is the same width from beginning to end, with no ends to weave in. 100 g of fingering weight is enough for a small shawlette. 150 g gives a more generous size. If you want to maximize your yardage, choose our 4-Ply sock yarn.
Sweater Yarn Designed for garments like baby sweaters. The stripes appear only on the yoke, and the rest is a coordinating solid color—no switching yarns or breaking the flow.
