This yarn was inspired by the amazing Giant Pacific Octopus

Octopuses are known for their ability to camouflage by changing the colour and texture of their skin to blend in with their environment. I played with this idea when developing the colourway, trying to capture the idea of an octopus hiding in a kelp forest.

Originally part of our 2023 summer club, this colourway is designed to pair with the Pacidic Socks pattern (sold separately). One of the challenges in working with a camouflage-y yarn is that small knitterly details get hidden along with all the sea creatures. To prevent the pattern from being overwhelmed by the yarn, Andrea Rangel chose a bold, textured cable with eyelets to mimic an octopus's suckers. The reverse stockinette on the bottom of the foot continues the watery effect around the sock.

One 100g skein is all the yarn you need to make these socks.

Striping Patterns

Round Trip Designed with two matching halves—perfect for projects like socks, mittens, or sleeves where you want identical results. One 100 g skein of fingering weight is enough for an average-size pair of women's socks. For longer or wider socks, choose the 150 g size.

One-Way Trip A long, non-repeating color sequence. Great for hats, cowls, or scarves—ideal when you want a journey through color from start to finish. For a Musselburgh Hat, 100 g of Trifecta or MCN is enough for a size L hat but you will need 150 g if you'd like a wide, folded brim. 4-Ply has more yardage so 100 g is enough to make a folded brim.

Shawl Yarn Specially dyed for top-down triangular shawls. Each stripe is the same width from beginning to end, with no ends to weave in. 100 g of fingering weight is enough for a small shawlette. 150 g gives a more generous size.

Sweater Yarn  Designed for garments like baby sweaters. The stripes appear only on the yoke, and the rest is a coordinating solid color—no switching yarns or breaking the flow.
